Foster Camp No. 2 of the SUVCW is named after John W. Foster and was organized on 11 July 2014. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suvcwfostercamp.org\/?page_id=98\">Click here<\/a> to learn more about Secretary Foster. The Camp serves Evansville, Indiana, and the Crescent Valley. As the successor and legal heir to the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), our camp has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suvcwfostercamp.org\/?page_id=25\">long and illustrious history<\/a> with the region.<\/p>\n<p>Foster Camp&#8217;s members typically meet in conjunction with monthly meetings of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sicwrt.org\/\">Southern Indiana Civil War Roundtable<\/a> (SICWRT). SICWRT meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Evansville Fraternal Order of Police lodge at 801 Court Street in downtown Evansville, Indiana.<\/p>\n<p>Membership in the Camp is open to every man over the age of 18 years old. There are hereditary members, who trace their lineage to those who served honorably in the Civil War, and associate members, who do not have the requisite ancestry but wish to join the fraternity. <a Veterans of the Civil War<\/a> is a nation-wide organization, comprised of more than 200 community-based camps which are organized under 26 Departments. Our camp is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/suvcw.org\/in\/DEPTIN.html\">Department of Indiana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Foster Camp&#8217;s organization follows the guidelines of the SUVCW, with a Camp Commander and Secretary\/Treasurer which are elected annually by the Camp members. He has done family and local Civil War research since 1976, and has been a Civil War graves and monuments preservationist since 1986. He researches the history of the 31st Indiana Volunteer Infantry and is author of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.31stindiana.com\/\">website on the regiment<\/a>. Masters was mustered into service on 3 March 1864 in Company C of the 53rd Regiment in Indiana. He became ill and died at home on 4 April 1865. Mike spent 42 years in education as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. Carson Jr.<\/strong><br \/>\nTom joined in 2019 and is a life member who traces his hereditary membership to four Bunton brothers of Spencer County: his great-great grandfather James, Pvt, Co. E, 25th Indiana Infantry; 3rd great uncles Thomas, Sgt, Co. C, 53rd Ind. Inf., Armstead and Benjamin, Pvts., Co. F, 1st Ind. Cavalry. Counselor of the national SUVCW, and also served as chairman of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sicwrt.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Southern Indiana Civil War Roundtable<\/a>. Joshua traces his hereditary membership to <a href=\"https:\/\/claybourn.org\/family-members\/james-harrison-claybourn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James. H. Ferris, a member of the 11th Battery, Indiana Light Artillery. He was later transferred to Lilly&#8217;s 18th Battery, Indiana Light Artillery. I of the 138th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He is also a member of the Southern Indiana Civil War Roundtable and Trinity United Methodist Church. Robinson<\/strong><br \/>\nJack traces his lineage to his great-great-grandfather George W. Masters, who mustered into service on 3 March 1864 in Company C of the 53rd Regiment in Indiana. He became ill and died on 4 April 1865. Jack spent 50 years as an attorney in Spencer County, Indiana.
