On Saturday, March 28, 2026, our Camp gathered at Newark Cemetery to honor 1st Lieutenant Louis Darragh in a moving and long-overdue ceremony. For the first time in 126 years, Lt. Darragh\u2019s grave was marked with a headstone. It was a solemn and gratifying moment, and the strong turnout of around 45 people showed how deeply this work still matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tribute would not have been possible without the generous help of American Legion Post 450, which stepped up in a big way. We are also especially grateful to Brother Dennis Hutchinson, Joe Flynn, and David Hoesli, who installed the headstone earlier this month. Their work helped make certain that Lt. Darragh at last received the visible mark of honor his service deserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day also gave us an opportunity to honor Private George Halstead at Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Private Halstead holds a special place in local history as the last Union veteran buried in Greene County, Indiana. He died on January 16, 1942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These ceremonies remind us that the work of remembrance is never finished. Even after more than a century, we still have the privilege and duty to see that the service and sacrifice of Union veterans are not forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
